CHM 367 - Biochemistry of Cancer Credits: 3
This course focuses on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms by which fundamental cellular processes are disrupted in the development and progression of cancer. The course begins by explaining the Hallmarks of Cancer, and then expanding to understand how these problems arise: this includes studying break down in cell signaling, the role of oncogenes and tumor suppressors, the failure of apoptosis in cancer, and a look at the role micorenvironment plays in tumor progression. the experimental basis for our current understanding will be emphasized, including the discussion of primary literature. To properly follow the material, it is important to have successfully completed either microbiology or biochemistry course(s).
Pre-Requisites: CHM 361 or CHM 362 or CHM 365 or PHA 365 or BIO 226 Repeatable: 0 Lecture: 3
