Africana Studies Minor Program

Africana Studies is a interdisciplinary minor focused on the diverse cultures, histories, and experiences of the peoples of Africa and the African diaspora. The Africana Studies (AFS) minor consists of 19 credits: 4 credits of required courses and 15 credits of electives. Students will complete AFS 101: Introduction to Africana Studies (3 credits) and AFS 390: Africana Studies Seminar (1 credit). In addition, students will complete one AFS-designated course from each of the following areas: (1) History, (2) Literature and the Arts, (3) Social Theory, and two additional AFS-designated courses of their choosing.

Requirements


The Africana Studies Minor consists of 7 courses (19 credits). Students must complete AFS 101 (3 credits) and AFS 390 (1 credit).

Areas


Students must also complete five additional courses from the areas of (1) History, (2) Literature and the Arts, and (3) Social Theory and at least one from each area.
