Communication and Media Studies - Media & Documentary Production Concentration

The Media & Documentary Production concentration prepares students for working in the rapidly changing world of digital media and non-narrative documentary filmmaking industry. Students will learn the foundation skills of audio and video production in both studio and field settings in order to create and adapt information for a wide variety of purposes. Students will develop documentary film fundamentals including topic identification, conceptualization, research, interviewing, directing, and editing.

Comunication Studies Requirements


All students choosing to major in Communication Studies must fulfill specific department core requirements. These courses contain skills, theory, analysis, performance, writing, and research. They are as follows (29 credits):

Concentration Requirements


The Media and Documentary Production concentration prepares students for working in the rapidly changing world of digital media. Students will learn the foundation skills of audio and video production in both studio and field settings in order to create and adapt information for a wide variety of purposes. Students learn to prepare content for a host of media production platforms including television, radio, and the Internet. Students will develop documentary film fundamentals including topic identification, conceptualization, research, interviewing, directing, and editing.


All students concentrating in Media Production must take the following two courses (6 credits):
