Musical Theatre Major, B.F.A.


Requirements


The B.F.A. in Musical Theatre provides pre-professional training in voice, acting, dance, and music theory as a foundation to a career in musical theatre. The program also offers opportunities for advanced study in each area. Students majoring in Musical Theatre are required to take the following:

  • Theatre, Music, and Dance courses - 70 credits
  • Electives - 18 credits
  • General Education courses - 37 credits
  • Total required for graduation - 125 credits

Note: The theatre faculty conducts a review of each BFA candidate’s progress at

the end of their fourth semester, during their sophomore year, to appraise

commitment, abilities, growth and academic progress. Students proving poor

achievement in any of these areas may be required to transfer to the BA Theatre

Arts degree program. Additionally, BFA theatre students must maintain a 2.5 grade

average in their major to continue in BFA degree path.

 

All Musical Theatre BFA students are required to audition for all mainstage productions, and accept the roles they are assigned. Mainstage productions are co-curricular, and participants are assigned a grade for credit through the Theatre Practicum course.
