The Cannabis Chemistry curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive background in the fundamentals of the science and technology related to the hemp and cannabis industries. With the growing abundance of products on the market containing cannabidiols (CBD’s), there is a shortage of scientists with the specific background and training required to serve the needs of the industry and consumers. The quantity and quality of ingredients in products containing cannabidiols (CBD’s) can be best controlled through the use of proper growing technique, proper extraction education, and proper use of the appropriate analytical equipment.
The Cannabis Chemistry program will prepare students for work in chemistry, natural products and other scientific fields. This BS program is designed for students with an interest in immediate employment in QA/QC jobs but will also prepare students advancing to graduate studies. The program meets the criteria for American Chemical Society certification of the degree. The recommended course sequence appears below. In all cases, students will choose specific courses in a concentration after consultation with departmental advisers.
The Wilkes Cannabis Chemistry BS program meets the standards for approval by the American Chemical Society for the professional training of chemists. Students who complete the BS program are certified with the American Chemical Society at graduation.
