COM 205 - History of Communication


Credits: 3

This course will, through direct experience, discussion, lecture, readings, and student presentations, increase awareness of the worldwide history of communication.  Students will examine the technological, cultural and social influences that have helped shape the world of communication.  Modern communication technologies will be examined through the lens of the past to better understand and appreciate the direct effects that past cultures and technologies have on our contemporary media.  The inextricable link between technological development and cultural development will be a thematic focus of this class.
