COM 210 - Advocacy Through Public Speaking and Debate


Credits: 3

This class will examine modes of communication and public speaking strategies including persuasion, propaganda, and coercion.  Issues in politics, law, global relationships and popular culture will be explored.  Debate forms such as policy, cross examination, Lincoln Douglas and Parliamentary Debate will be applied to societal constructs with the goal of solving problems.  Students will focus on content, delivery, organization, and the evidentiary process of structuring arguments through the lenses of advocacy and empowerment to air them in a modern debate space.

Pre-Requisites: COM 101 Fundamentals of Public Speaking
Co-requisites: There are no course co-requisites.
