Health Promotion, B.S.


The purpose of this major is to offer additional opportunities for students interested in healthcare promotion and education. Students may enter the major directly or switch into the major from nursing, pharmacy or other offerings at Wilkes University.

    • Any psychology course (suggestions 101, 221, 222, 257, 311, 331, 341, 351, 359)-potential psychology minor
    • Any nursing course completed successfully prior
    • Any pharmacy course or pharmacy prerequisite completed successfully prior
    • Business courses applicable to healthcare (LDR 201, any MGT course, any PPD course)
    • Spanish courses (SP 102, 203, 204, 205, 211)
    • Communications courses (COM 102, 203)
    • Sociology (101, 236, 251, 234)
    • Health Informatics (CS 265)
    • Nursing Informatics (NSG 341) 3 credits
    • Cannabis courses (PHS 461, BIO 363, PHS 463, PHS 465)-potential CBD certificate
    • Public Health courses with permission (PHS 563,  PHS 562)

    *Students may wish to earn a minor (@18 credits) with advisor support.

    *Students may request a waiver to the Health Promotion Major Task Force to include courses not on this list.

Junior Year First Semester


Students will start with the three foundational courses: 201-203. Elective offerings approved by the HP program will complete the remaining credits.

Junior Year Second Semester


Students must take HP 301, 321 (cross listed as NSG 321) and 363 (cross listed as PHA 563). Students opt in to take HP 204 (cross listed with NSG 200) OR HP 232 (cross listed with PHA 532). HP 232 will be a three credit course, vs the cross list PHA 532 which is 2. Students will take one additional HP approved elective course.

Senior Year First Semester


Students take HP 310 and 390, and three HP approved electives.

Senior Year Second Semester


Students take three HP courses, along with three additional electives.
